MISS KIM wilcox

I believe, with a passion, that the children’s time with us should be some of the happiest of their lives and that they should have an outstanding education. As Headteacher, it is a privilege working with a nurturing and highly qualified team of teachers and support staff, who each day strive to inspire children to excellence and bring learning to life. Together with the Governors of the school, we continually challenge ourselves to improve so that we provide the absolute best for our children.

      mrs clare worsfold
      year 2 class teacher

I started my career in Salisbury, before moving to Surrey to lead music in a large primary school. Following my move back to the South Coast with my husband, I joined Western Downland to work part time after having my sons.
I enjoy working with the children, getting them ready for their transition to Rockbourne. I encourage them to become independent in their learning and like watching their confidence grow.

My name is Abbie Guymer and I have taught at Western Downland for 15 years. During that time I have taught in all the Junior classes and am currently the Year 5 teacher. This year I will be leading English and feel excited about building on the work I have started and moving the subject forward in light of the new Primary Curriculum. I am originally from near Lymington but now live north of Salisbury with my husband, Paul and our son, Edwin.

Mrs HANNAH mace
RECEPTION CLASS TEACHER & Infant site leader

As Year R Class Teacher I am responsible for supporting the children in settling into school and ensuring that they have the best possible start to their learning journey. Through working with the children as a whole class, individually and in small groups I am able to get to know each child as a unique individual and provide them with the necessary support and challenge to ensure they become happy and enthusiastic learners.

Year 2 Class Teacher

I am sharing teaching Year Two at Western Downland.  I provide opportunities for each child to learn through play based activities and gradually introduce a more formal classroom. Every day brings a new challenge and I enjoy learning alongside the children in my class. Outside of school I like to be outdoors spending time with my three year old daughter.

Miss Emily savage
year 3 class teacheR

I am delighted to join the Western Downland team to begin my teaching career. As the year 3 teacher, I am enjoying working with the children in their transition to the Rockbourne site. It is exciting to support their increasing independence and see their confidence growing daily in their learning. Outside of school I enjoy spending my time in the New Forest walking my dog Alfie.

Year 1 Class Teacher

As a mature entrant to teaching, I have been fortunate to work in schools in London and Hereford, which have exposed me to a wonderfully diverse range of children and learning needs. I am already hugely enjoying the nurturing ethos of Western Downland.

While I have a passion for both words and numbers, which I hope enthuses my own teaching, I am also picking up curriculum responsibilities for Geography and History, and am looking forward to working with the whole school team to creatively develop these areas of our learning, linking them into other areas of the curriculum.

Mrs JACKIE Miller
Year 6 Class Teacher & MATHS SUBJECT LEADER

My name is Jackie Miller. I am currently Year 6 teacher but have over twenty five years experience working across the primary age range in a variety of school settings from large junior schools to small inner city primary schools. I began my career in Nottinghamshire where I became a Leading Maths Teacher. Moving to Hampshire, I was eager to continue the role. I was given the opportunity to become Maths Manager in our school and now enjoy the challenges it brings and the chances I have to support staff and children in their mathematical understanding.

Mr james gilbert

I was thrilled to join the school following several years happily volunteering.

Alongside the teachers I support the children in their learning as well as small group work including literacy, maths and baking for tuck shop. Helping the children at lunchtime allows me to get to know them really well which is a joy.

I trained and worked as a primary school teacher before having my four children and have been a parent volunteer at their schools. I have also worked in a local pre-school as a music specialist for many years. I am enjoying my role as a LSA, supporting the year 2 children in Mrs Worsfold's class.

After 2 years of Volunteering and many years in Independent Specialist Education, I am now in my second year in Reception Class. Alongside Miss Nightingale, I support the children as a whole, individually and in small groups with their learning. I feel honoured to be part of their learning journey. I have recently completed my Forest School Leader training. The forest school ethos is something that I am incredibly passionate about. Mrs Lucy Nicholls -

My daughters came to this school 11 years ago and I was involved from the start, as a ‘Mummy Helper’ and an active member of the Friends until I began working in a Teaching Assistant capacity at the Junior site 5 years ago.
I shall be working in the Year 3 and 4 classrooms on Thursday and Friday mornings to support the class teachers. Every afternoon I will be taking small groups or individual children for intervention work, mainly to support them in maths, phonics & spelling and reading.

Mrs Cathy Sumner -Higher Level Teaching Assistant & ELSA

I originally trained as a Primary School teacher in Western Australia and have been at Western Downland for 7 years. I enjoy my varied responsibilities as an HLTA including supporting the class teacher to enable the children to achieve their individual targets, working with individuals or small groups in the afternoons with a variety of intervention programmes and also teaching Personal Social and Health Education. I have trained as an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant and also enjoy supporting children with different emotional needs at the junior site.

mrs Jondelle bartlett-
IT support & Health and Safety officer

After working as admin assistant at Damerham for 4 years I have now moved on to running my own business.
I am thrilled to be able to continue to support Western Downland with their IT and Health and Safety.

Forest School LSA and Lunchtime Supervisor at Damerham.

I have been involved in childcare for over 20 years as a Nanny, Montessori teacher and a Mummy with experience in caring for children of a variety of ages. I have spent several years before both my children started school running a small craft business making enchanting woodland creations from Fairy Houses and doors to felt animals and woodland folk. With a love of the outdoors and an interest in creating crafts from natural materials I feel privileged to be working along side Mrs Brophy as part of the forest school team and aspire to help the children develop a strong and positive relationship with the natural world around them.

I have been involved with the school since 1999, initially as a parent, then parent Governor and as the Music Teacher (for the past 9 years).

I teach the music curriculum to Reception, Class, Years 1,2,4,5 & 6 through learning songs, musical games, listening and responding to a wide range of
music, playing instruments, composing, rehearsing and performing.

I support the staff and children with the Spring music concert, Variety show, musical productions and church celebrations. I also run the Junior Choir after school on Tuesdays.

I look after the finance and HR for the whole school, and I am the admin officer for the Rockbourne site.
I live in Salisbury with my husband and two children, and in my spare time I am a volunteer in the Sea Cadets.

I am from Brittany and I have been teaching French in England since 1995 as a tutor of adults and students of all ages. I live in Damerham with my husband and daughter. I have been involved with this lovely school for many years, first as a parent helper. I am the junior site French Teacher and also support other teachers when required. As a qualified secondary school teacher, my aim is to show the children that language learning not only can be fun but it also increases critical thinking skills, creativity and flexibility of mind. I like to encourage a positive attitude to learning a foreign language and prepare the children to approach secondary school language lessons with enthusiasm.
